A heavy heart

It is 10pm, on a Saturday night. Paulo and Heloisa are both asleep. I have my house in order, laundry is done, the house is clean and the dishwasher is running.

But not all is all right.

We spent our afternoon with Heloisa in a hospital. She was having an EEG.

Last week, she started to have some spasm. I couldn’t figure out when or why it happened.

The spasms occur when I am changing her diaper/ her clothes or when she is on her bouncing seat or when she is almost asleep. Some of them are small and some are big. I started to get worried.

So on Thursday, I called her pediatrician. He didn’t want me to take her to his office, but to go to the hospital and get an EEG. I thought that was extremely weird. How can he order a test based only on my descriptions? And he even suggested that she has West Syndrome.

I called my sister, since she is a physical therapist; I figured she might know something.

She suggested Heloisa has Moro Reflex, a normal milestone for all the babies. I’ve been watching You Tube videos of Moro Reflex since I talked to her. I am pretty sure Heloisa’s spasms are Moro Reflex, but we went and got her tested anyway.

My heart is heavy and I am extremely worried and we are playing the waiting game for the results.

Two months old

Heloisa, you are two months old. You are so much more alert and you are changing every day.
You can hold your hand a little longer, you notice things and you follow us with your little eyes.
You did your first road trip. We went to the grandparent’s house in Curitiba.  And you behave really well during the 06 hours’ drive.
Mommy and you spent two weeks there. During this time, you were extremely spoiled by everyone and you met your cousins: Ana Júlia and Bernardo.
During this time, you went to see Mommy’s pediatrician. Since he is your cousin’s doctor, he sent a message to Mommy. He asked to bring you to his office, so he could meet the daughter of his first patient, your Mommy.
As soon as we got back, we transitioned you from the pack ‘n play on Mommy and Daddy’s room to your own room and we started your sleep training.
It has not been easy, but you are adjusting really well.
You celebrate your 1st Easter and you gave your 1st smile.
At your monthly check-up you weight: 4,240kg and you measured 57 cm. There was one  concern on your appointment, we must watch the growing of your head, since your frontal miller (sp?) is too small for your age.

One month old

I am way behind on posting Heloisa’s updates. She is already 02 months old, and I haven’t post her monthly update.  And truth to be told, I feel like I have a writer’s block And believe me, I have so much to share and to document.  Every time I sit to write, I can’t get the right words to post.
But nevertheless, here is her 01 month post. The story board is written in Portuguese, so I don’t have to re-write when the time comes to put on her baby book ; )

Heloisa, I cannot believe you are 01 month old today and all this time has passed, since you arrived in our family and brought so much joy and happiness.
A few things to remember about your 01st month:
You had a lot of visitors at the hospital, but just a few of them had the opportunity to meet you, because they would arrive by the time you were having your jaundice treatment.
Gradma Helena came to stay a week to help your mom and dad to adjust with you. And Grandpa Ivanir came just to meet you.
Since we came home, you were being fed with formula, since Mommy didn’t have enough supply to feed you.
During this month, your newborn clothes started to fit and your preemies are a thing of the past.
You hair started to grown, as well as your lashes and eyebrows. It seems you will be a blondie like your Dad and his blue eyes.
You are a colicky baby, but after the pain is gone, you will sleep almost all night and you will only wake up to eat once or twice a night.
Another big milestone:  you had your ears pierced and you are now sporting some earrings.
At your monthly check-up you weight: 3,350kg and you measured 52 cm.

Easter 2012

We celebrate Easter with Hubby's family this year. It was really a low key weekend.
But nevertheless, it was fun to celebrate Heloisa's first Easter with family and friends. She even got herself a little basket from the Easter Bunny.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and you celebrated Jesus as he is the reason for the season ; )

Good Friday

“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Hubby to the rescue

Last Monday was my first day with Heloisa ALL BY MYSELF. Ever since she was born, Paulo or my Mom were always around.
We came home on Sunday. While we drove home, I had a mild case of motion sickness, which is pretty common to happen, when I am not driving.
On Monday morning, as Paulo left to work, I started to feel a little headache. I took some Tylenol and I thought it would go away soon.
As the hours progressed, the headache turned into migraine. And when I say migraine, I mean I felt like a knife was stuck in my right eye.
By 2pm, I had to call Paulo, for him to come home and watch Heloisa. I couldn't see it anymore. I was completely blind on my right eye. Can you believe it?
Heloisa felt something was off, because she was screaming for a whole hour. I finally made her calm down and she slept. I laid her down beside me on my bed and I slept too.
Paulo arrived home and he took care of her for the rest of the afternoon while I slept.
By 7:00 pm, I woke up like nothing had happened.  It was clearly lack of sleep.
When I woke up, I made some chicken soup for dinner and I decided we need to sleep train Heloisa.
My biggest challenge was to be strong enough to follow some sleep training method and put Paulo on board too.

I hope y’all are having a blessed Holy Week.
