It is 10pm, on a Saturday night. Paulo and Heloisa are both asleep. I have my house in order, laundry is done, the house is clean and the dishwasher is running.
But not all is all right.
We spent our afternoon with Heloisa in a hospital. She was having an EEG.
Last week, she started to have some spasm. I couldn’t figure out when or why it happened.
The spasms occur when I am changing her diaper/ her clothes or when she is on her bouncing seat or when she is almost asleep. Some of them are small and some are big. I started to get worried.
So on Thursday, I called her pediatrician. He didn’t want me to take her to his office, but to go to the hospital and get an EEG. I thought that was extremely weird. How can he order a test based only on my descriptions? And he even suggested that she has West Syndrome.
I called my sister, since she is a physical therapist; I figured she might know something.
She suggested Heloisa has Moro Reflex, a normal milestone for all the babies. I’ve been watching You Tube videos of Moro Reflex since I talked to her. I am pretty sure Heloisa’s spasms are Moro Reflex, but we went and got her tested anyway.
My heart is heavy and I am extremely worried and we are playing the waiting game for the results.
