Farmer's Market

Every Friday, there is this farmer market a few blocks from where we live. We can find fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meets, fishes and so on....
I went today, early in the morning, so I have the fresh produces for the weekend. But when you see a lot of beautiful things with a wonderful price you end up buying more things than your arms can carry.
So, as a top 1 priority in my wish list is :

Happy 33 to me!!!

Happy birthday to me!!! YUPPII!!!!
Today I had a different day, lets say a celebration day.
I went to have lunch at Amor aos Pedaços. I treated myself with a few pastries and bought slices of 2 different pies to attend Paulo's taste as well as mine. My favorite is a Marzipan and Strawberry pie. It is just a piece of heaven. And as Paulo's favorite is Strawberry Meringue Pie.
At night Paulo is taking me to dine at one of my favorites restaurants in São Paulo. It is called The Fifties. They have this beautiful 50's decoration and they have my favorites: burgers... I just love them. And they are not Junk Food - Mc Donald's style.
I will try to take some pictures and I will post it tomorrow.
For now is just Happy Birthday to me!!!

New house

About the new house
...it will be completed in February 2008. The company has a 0 delay index in their history. So, we are praying really hard that they keep this way. They will deliver the keys on Feb. 20th and only after that we can put the hard wood floors (that I am dreaming of), the custom made cabinets. So I predict we will be moving by the end March.
Have a nice weekend,

Dia de los Muertos

Like our Mexican friends, we do have a "Dia de Los Muertos" holiday. So, last weekend was a 3 day weekend. As we always say, it is not Dia de Los Muertos, if it is not raining. But eventhough wehave really similar values, traditions and costumes, this is one that I really "envy" the Mexicans. The Mexicans celebrate the Dead in a beautiful, cheerfull way. The traditional mood is bright with emphasis on celebrating and honoring the lives of the deceased. Revelers of the Day of the Dead celebrate the continuation of life, believing that death is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new stage in life. It is a public holiday in Brazill where many Brazilians celebrate it by visiting cemeteries and churches in a form of Ancestor Workship, then.... only sadness, sorrow and lot of tears.
As the saying says, it rained all weekend and it was a little cold for this time of the year (lower/mid 40s). In one of the brief moments without rain, we went to visit the construction site of the new house (take a look at the pictures).
We didn't have anything special planned. Mainly because we had a busy year with all the moving and traveling around. So, the rain was more than welcomed.

Embu das Artes

The first artistic breath of the city started in 1937, when C á s s i o M 'b o y received the first Great Prize at the International Exposition of Arts Techniques in Paris. Before that, Cássio was art teacher of some of the Modernistic Movement, including A n i t a M a l f a t t i, T a r s i l a d o A m a r a l, O s w a l d d e A n d r a d e, and others.

Ca s s i o M ' B o y followed S a k a i t h e E m b u as his disciple and they found a group of plastic arts called Solano de Andrade. With the creation of this group and all the african religion tradition that they follow, they introduced all the group to the C-a-n-d-o-m-b-l-e religion.

The artistic tradition of the city was institutionalized and it gained projects in and out of Brazil in 1964. In addition to that, in the late 60's, the Craft fair started every weekend and it is going strong since then.

It is amazing the art work of the artisans, they make leather goods, belts (like the ones I bought), amazing landscapes and a lot of wood carving, including doors.

We spent a lovely day there as you can see in the pictures.

How long does a new habit take to "kick-in"?

As you all know, I am the Diet's Queen. I am always trying something different, and never go till the end. It was always like this. I was a chubby child and an obese teenager.
Ever since I came back from Bahia, I am trying really hard to change one of my poor habits: the exercise or better yet the lack of exercise.
I've always been a pretty lazy person to exercise. The only thing I did regularly was the Pilates classes in all my life.
I read about this 21 days habit thing. In summary, what says is : you need 21 days to replace an old/bad habit with a new one. I decided to follow on the exercise subject. To my surprise it is working really well. I've been working out 5 days a week with an aerobic as well as a weight lifting routine and I am really proud to say that I am on my 13th day program....
I will keep you posted about my progress.
