Two Hurricanes in the same week....

actually it was 3.
The first hurricane that hit our house was my husband's decision about our vacation.
We decided to go to Buenos Aires and Bariloche in Argentina, but as he travels a lot, he had a lot of frequent flyer's passes and he refuses to pay for any kind of ticket. When we arrived in the company's office on Saturday morning, we found out that they are not flying to Buenos Aires with frequent flyers tickets... He asked me what we should do... and I said: Let's go home and rethink our vacation plan...
Meanwhile, the company's employee said to him as I quote: "We fly to Toronto and to Frankfurt."
With not a single blink in his eyes he said: "Please, check Toronto."
She: I only have for May, April is sold out
He: Try Frankfurt instead.
She: I don't have April 9th, as you want, but I do have April 13th.
He: Book it, please. He turns to me: When do you want to come back???
Me: (I was completely off guard) On April 23rd.
(I could not believe what he did. Don't get me wrong... I love the idea, but this wasn't what exactly I was planning).
So, we went to a bookstore and we bought a Germany guide and we found out that 10 days weren't enough.... So we went back to the company and changed our plane tickets to April 29th, instead....
I spent the week trying to figure out our tour and doing the hotel reservations.. but so far so good. Everything is going well and we are flying to Germany in less than a month... YUPPII!!!!
The second hurricane was in a more serious subject. I have a colleague at work that he is my partner, we share the workload. He is 35 years old and we all know that he has problems with alcohol. But for the past few months, he is getting worse by the day. He is missing work and he is going to the medical center at the company almost everyday. But this week, my boss with the company's social worker gave him an ultimatum. He needed to get help. He didn't have any other choice left. So, he finally admitted that he has a problem and he is checking in a rehab clinic next Wednesday. I am really happy for him and for the decision that he made. But I can tell you... my workload is almost too much for only one person. My boss said that if I need help, I can ask him to bring someone from the São Paulo facility to help me. Let's see what will happen.
And the third .... well, I cannot write about this yet... but this is the biggest and the most expected.... I will tell you as soon as I can!!!
Have a nice weekend...

The rain season has started.

The rain season has definitely started. The city is a mess and the rain is non-stop. It is amazing.

It will be probably be going on until end of August, begin of September. Can you believe it? This is the Northeast Winter. The thunders and lights are getting stronger by the day and the temperatures inside the air-conditioning environments are really good (19º C / 65 ºF). The temperatures outside are another subject. It never gets lower than 24ºC / 75ºF. Well, life is getting better and better.

April is coming and the vacation time is arriving. We already decided our destination (Chile and Argentina).

I will keep you posted.

On a more serious note, my father was in the ICU for 24 hours (until Saturday afternoon). He is still in the hospital and the doctors are investigating what happened. It looked like a Heart Attack, but it wasn't. So, I have to wait what is going to happen. I will keep you posted in this one too.

I hope your weekend was great and the week will be fantastic.

Today our friends, Manfred and Angelica, are going away to their annual season in Germany.

They are leaving happily with the wish to meet their first grandchild who will be born in October.

We had a wonderful summer together and this was far the best Holiday Season we had in the past years.

Family, Faith and Religion

I was born and raised as a catholic, so was my husband. My father used to go to the seminar to become a priest. Long story short, he left the seminar before he got himself expelled.

Even though, his decision brought him a lot of grief, especially because my grandma never forgave him. His faith was always strong and he passed that to us (my sister, my brother and I).

When I left my hometown and we went to US, we found this perfect church close to our house that we felt really welcomed. The name of the church was St Alphonsus of Dearborn. The priest was great and we had that family sense that we missed so much because we were really far away from home.

When we moved back to Brazil, we end-up in the city with the major number of Catholic churches in the country, but we never could find a church where we had the same feeling that we had at St Alphonsus. Go figure!!!

But I am telling you all of this, because ever since my grandma died, I've been missing the family bond that I shared with her.

Some people are saying that we need to start a family, especially because we've been married for 6 years now and we are always finding excuses to postpone this decision.

Because all of this decision making, have a baby or not, I've been researching the internet and I've been reading a lot of blog from SAHM (Stay at home moms). One thing that got my attention is the fact that there are blogrolls from Mormon Moms and Christian Moms, but you cannot find any thing related with the Catholic Church.

The strongest support group I found was the Mormons. I decided to read a little about them, because I didn't know anything about their religion. I have to admit how wonderful they are about the sense of family and all the principles they have.

I wish the Catholic Church could learn with them. The Catholic Church should learn about their values and especially how to promote these values along the Catholic Families.
