The craziness about the World Cup (on a work day).

Brazil is playing with Gana. It is 12:00pm. The company stopped. There are Big Screens in every building.

Brazil just scored and people went crazy, horns, whistles, screams…. Let's wait and see.

I don't know how people will be back at work after the game!!! I will tell you later.

Six Years Ago…

…. My husband proposed.

We met at Chicago O’Hare Airport in October 1999 and it was love at first sight, but our lives were so busy and he had this great chance to work outside Brazil that we just kept our lives in the destiny’s hands. Every time he came to Brazil, he went to my hometown and we had those wonderful memories to keep us going. He is from São Paulo and I am from Curitiba. It is about 450 kilometers (280 miles). We talked over the phone every day and we exchanged e-mails all day and on weekends. But the distance was our constant enemy.

June 25, 2000 was a Sunday night, right after the Corpus Christy Holiday. I had worked all weekend including the holiday, because I used to work in the IT area and we were about to implement a new ERP.

He called with a very serious voice. He was sounding really nervous, when he told me that on the previous Friday his boss had changed his employee status from traveler to International Service Employee and that he wanted to marry me.

It was quite a fairy tale, especially because we had seen each other 6 times in person. Our relationship was based on phone calls and e-mails. I didn’t have any doubts about what I felt for him that I just said yes. And on the following minute, we started to plan how we would tell to our parents and how my life would change a lot. It was a dream coming true.

It is funny to tell this story to everyone, because just a few people know it the way that really happened.

........

Hi,

I need to start with a comment for Susan; I am preparing a blog entry about Brazilian Food. It a complex subject, because we were colonized by so many people that it will take me a while until my perfectionist self agrees with the text.

This will be a long weekend for us. It is Saint John day on Saturday and he is big in the Brazilian Northeast. It is a local holiday. And just this celebration is worth a whole blog entry about food.

Brazil is playing right now and the company let us go at 1:00 pm. So we stopped by Mc Donald’s to have lunch and we came back home.

Last weekend was great. The weather, the game, the barbecue, but what I like most was the movies that we watched. We watched 2 good movies: Million Dollar Baby and Hotel Rwanda. I liked the first one and I just love Morgan Freeman, but the second one was the best. Even though it is a sad and violent movie, the facts behind it is just scary and worth to know. I was born in a third world country, but my hometown (Curitiba) is the best city in Brazil to live and it is always compared with cities in Europe, because of its colonization, organization and living quality. I had the opportunity to live overseas, I met other countries and I have a lot of friends from another countries. And even with all the difficulties that we have in Brazil (poverty, bad politicians) we don’t suffer with the kind of things that happens in Africa. We always hear about the atrocities that they are doing over there, but when you watch a movie like this, you can’t believe people can do things like they do and they think they are the most brilliant people alive. This movie is really good. For those who watch I hope you can agree with me, and for those who didn’t watch it is worth the time.

After the game, more movies to see ; )

National Holiday

Hi Everyone,

Here I am on a National Holiday working, because the company I work for decided that as we will have a State Holiday next Friday, we should work today. Needless to say how piss everyone is. And to top it all, I've been so busy that I've been eating at my desk, having 20 minutes for lunch going right back to work after that.

This time of the year is the worst time for an Automotive Industry, because everything is happening now. I've been taking my phone of the hook so I can work without interruptions. My "To Do" list is growing by the minute. But what can I say: I like the hectic environment for a while. It is fun. I hope I can rest a bit on Saturday and recharge my batteries for next week, because I will need it.

We don't have any special plans for the weekend, only the barbecue on Sunday, to watch the game with our neighbors, but on the other hand the weather is so awful that I don't know it this barbecue will have after all. It is amazing how much it is raining this year. The temperatures are great, but the humidity is not great at all. It reminds me Michigan Summers with high temperatures and even higher humidity (My Midwest blog friends know what I am talking about).

Tomorrow I will have my third dentist appointment and the name of my problem in English is TMJ (Thanks Marilyn for the term).

I don´t know if I will have time to stop by before the weekend, so I hope you have a great weekend.

Hello

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been so busy with work and my dentist appointments that I couldn’t stop by all week.

My husband finally got home on June 2nd. So we had a wonderful weekend just to ourselves. He brought me a lot of gifts (YUPIII!!!), but one of them caused a little trouble for him. I asked him to buy me a hair dryer with ion system. So he was really happy because he could get me the exact one that I suggested. We just forgot a little thing, a hair dryer looks like a gun on the luggage x-ray.

He said to me: “I sensed that something was not right about putting the hair dryer on the luggage, but I didn’t have more space on the luggage that I was carrying with me”. So, when he arrived in São Paulo, one of his bags didn’t arrive, he was really upset, but the guys at the United Airlines said that if everything was ok, the bag should arrive on Saturday morning in Brazil and then by the end of the day in Salvador. It was exactly what happened, and everything was ok in the bag, but there was a tag saying that the luggage was inspected by the American Security. The bag arrived at our house at 12:15 am on Sunday.

On the subject Dentist: I‘ve been having a lot of pain in teeth, so I decided to make an appointment on my dentist and he was not happy to tell me that I have a problem on my jaw and that is the reason I am having headaches, toothaches and even the pain in my neck must have something to do with that. So here I am having a lot of dentist appointments to solve the problem.

This weekend was the “Decorating Weekend” on my subdivision for the World Cup. They just finished the decoration and tomorrow (if the weather helps) I will take some pictures to show you.

Brazil will play for the first time on Tuesday and we will be leaving work at 2:00 pm to watch the game. I don’t know what I am going to do (watch or not watch), but I will let you know. Next Sunday, we will have a “Barbecue Game” to watch the game with our neighbors. It will be fun I guess. Anyway, I will keep you posted.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Oi Pessoal,

Tudo bem?
